Brent: Letter to Friends about our family June 9, 2000
Dear Greg and Danette;
I saw the article in the BYU Alumni magazine on the work you are doing to send the youth to EFY and thought I ought to write and let you know what my family has been up to for the last five years. After moving from Tampa we ended up in a large stake in northwest Houston for three years which we really enjoyed. Enron about two years ago asked me to transfer to Argentina for a couple of years to oversee the legal work for trading energy commodities in Argentina and to train a local attorney to handle the trading work for Enron. I am now getting ready to move back to Houston. We should be back in time for the opening of the Houston Temple. We have found a house we like very much in the North Houston Stake which will be about 10 or 15 minutes away from the Temple.
Avenina 9 de julio--widest in the world: 110 m with 16 lanes.
Right now we are doing pretty well. The Lord has blessed us very much and the move here allowed many of our prayers to be answered. Health wise Carolyn has had a hard five years. She has been hospitalized 3 different times for manic depression, but she is doing fine right now because the medicines appear to be working. Even in this we have been blessed in that I have employment that has been flexible enough to let me take care of her and the children when I needed to be at home or the hospital. It is a struggle to see someone you love in so much pain and anguish but we are stronger and I hope closer because of the ordeal she is enduring.
The Clive family was in our little branch here a year ago and mentioned their time in Florida. I have also heard rumors, Greg, that you had some serious health concerns and I hope that you are recovered and doing well. I often look back to my time on the high council. It has been a high point thus far in my church service and I appreciate the lessons I learned from you and the rest of the council.
I will be sending my own daughters to EFY this July in San Antonio. It is hard to believe that they will both be driving within this next year. Megan is 16 but is unable to drive in Argentina for which I am thankful, the death rate here on the roads is one of the highest in the world. Lauren is 15 and she and her sister are really excited about being able to drive in Houston. Nathan is 11 and is growing very fast, I look forward to working with him in scouts this next year.
Carolyn is not looking forward to going back to Houston, she has a good life here, she rides horses five days a week and has world class trainers. She has a very nice horse we bought here which we are bringing back to Houston. She has a maid and a lot of other conveniences that I will not be able to replicate back in Houston. She loves our small English speaking branch here. I think she will have the hardest time adjusting to the move. I am ready for the move, I have experienced a new culture, law and language for the last two years and I am ready for some familiarity.
I hope this letter finds you all well and happy. I just wanted you two to know that I fondly remembered you and my time in Tampa.
My best to you,
